Lapis Lazuli has one of the longest histories of any stone in the world — valued as a gemstone since at least 5000 BC, ground into pigment by Renaissance painters for their finest blues, buried with the pharaohs of ancient Egypt and traded across civilisations for thousands of years. That extraordinary deep blue comes primarily from lazurite, one of several minerals that make up Lapis Lazuli, and the golden flecks scattered through it are pyrite — iron catching the light like stars in a night sky. In its raw form, unpolished and uncut, that combination is as vivid and alive as it gets.
Each piece measures approximately 5-6cm — a substantial, handleable chunk with natural rough surfaces and that deep, rich blue clearly visible throughout. Raw Lapis has a more textured, immediate quality than polished forms — the colour is less uniform, the surfaces more varied, and the pyrite flecks catch the light in a more unpredictable way. It is a genuinely beautiful object to have on a desk, windowsill or altar, and a powerful piece to hold during meditation when working with truth, communication or clarity of thought.
