What Palo Santo is used for

Palo Santo is burned to cleanse and clear the energy of a space, an object, or a person — releasing what no longer serves and inviting in clarity, calm and positive energy. It is used before meditation to create a focused, sacred atmosphere, after difficult conversations or stressful events to reset the energy of a room, and as part of intention-setting rituals and spiritual practice.

Unlike sage, which has a strong, herbaceous cleansing smoke, Palo Santo has a lighter, sweeter, more resinous quality — warm, woody, with faint notes of citrus and mint. Many people find it easier to work with than sage, and gentler in its effect.

How to use your Palo Santo sticks

1. Hold your Palo Santo stick at a 45 degree angle
2. Light the tip with a candle, lighter or match
3. Allow the flame to catch for 30–60 seconds
4. Blow the flame out gently — the stick should smoulder and produce fragrant smoke
5. Move slowly through your space, allowing the smoke to reach the corners of the room
6. When you're finished, rest the stick in a fireproof dish or abalone shell and allow it to extinguish naturally
7. The same stick can be relit many times

Our Palo Santo is sustainably and ethically sourced — harvested only from naturally fallen trees, never from living ones. This is the traditional and ecologically responsible way to harvest Palo Santo, and it produces the highest quality, most resin-rich wood. No trees are harmed in the process.
