Lapis Lazuli has one of the longest histories of any gemstone in the world. Valued since at least 5000 BC across ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and the Persian Empire, it was ground into pigment by Renaissance painters for their finest blues and buried with the pharaohs as a stone of royalty and divine wisdom. That extraordinary deep blue — speckled with golden pyrite like a night sky — comes primarily from lazurite, one of several minerals that make up Lapis Lazuli. In the highest quality specimens, from the ancient mines of Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountains, that blue is rich, even and deeply saturated. This is the grade we stock.
This tumbled stone has been smoothed and polished to bring out the full depth of the blue and the shimmer of the pyrite flecks — each stone measures 30-40mm, comfortable to hold in the hand and easy to carry. Tumbled stones are the most versatile form — small enough for a pocket or bag, substantial enough to feel present during meditation, and beautiful enough to sit on a desk or windowsill as a daily reminder to speak honestly, think clearly and trust your own wisdom.
Each stone is sourced from Afghanistan — home to the world's most celebrated Lapis Lazuli deposits — and handpicked for depth of colour and quality.
